Great post Laura.

At IMVU we often use very hi-fidelity prototypes, illustrated in Photoshop and 'wired up' as HTML image maps.
These have proved useful specifically in cases where a lot of information is being presented and we want to make sure that users will be able to parse this.
A lower fidelity prototype may not validate the information design of the UI to the same degree.
The key to this approach is being able to produce hi-fi prototypes quickly and cheaply.

Hi-fi is not always the way to go, but it is great for validating informationally complex UI.

Thanks for the comment and for the tip on ForeUI! I'll check it out. It feels like there are more and more good tools for creating interactive wireframes coming out every day. Let's hope the approach is catching on.

Very good post, I agree with you and I prefer making interactive wireframe too. My favorite tool is ForeUI (http://www.foreui.com/), it can create interactive wireframe and export to DHTML format. What's more it can change the style of wireframe by switching the UI themes.
