Business Need
Adobe’s PDF is a standard, platform-independent document format that allows users worldwide to capture and share information from any computer on any system. Unsurprisingly, with over 200 million PDF documents available on the web today, the screen that allows users to download the free Adobe Reader is one of the most visited sites on the Internet. Adobe asked SBD to redesign the download screens in order to allow users to get the right version of Adobe Reader for their computers more easily and quickly.
Strategy & Solution
Using an iterative process of designing and usability testing several approaches to the download screens, Sliced Bread Design created a new interaction and visual design. To simplify the download experience, we:
- Streamlined the main download page to automatically present the most likely download, while still allowing the user an easy way to choose another version
- Moved secondary information to make clearer the functionality and key points
- Reduced the number of required user choices while maintaining full functionality
- Allowed users to compare key features so that they can quickly select the best version for them
- Created a new Mobile Devices page that is viewable on either a PC or mobile device screen
- Created a new visual design that supported the interaction and incorporated Adobe branding
