Business Need
Bitfone, a maker of innovative mobile phone technologies, wanted to create a new mobile internet phone for the European and Japanese markets that would allow users to access their computer files, send and receive email attachments, and save web pictures. This new technology had two interfaces: one for the mobile phone and one for the user’s computer. Sliced Bread Design worked with Bitfone on a compressed schedule to quickly design interfaces for both platforms.
Strategy & Solution
Because the iShare service works as a conduit between the mobile phone and the PC, we designed the two platforms to work together cohesively.
The phone interface included:
- A home screen that allows on-the-go users to access shared files instantly
- The ability to access files and photos shared on one's own home computers
- Easy access to content from file-sharing buddies
- A way to share, on the fly, photos found online
The desktop interface included:
- The ability to set up the majority of the iShare service from the PC, avoiding a clumsy, phone-based setup process
- A tabbed interface that provided an obvious way to move between local and network storage
- Security measures to reassure users that they were not accidentally sharing private files
