Business Need

As a part of the No Child Left Behind Act, schools are required by law to track student performance using Standardized Testing. Edusoft helps teachers and administrators track students’ progress with a web-based student assessment platform.

Because accurate and flexible reporting tools are the key to understanding students’ performance, Edusoft asked Sliced Bread Design to help improve the reporting functionality of their web application.

Strategy & Solution

In order to create a new interface for the Edusoft software that works the way educators work, we:

• Conducted a contextual inquiry of 15 teachers, administrators, and technology specialists in California and Texas school districts
• Created a gap analysis of users’ mental models and processes, identifying several key needs that weren’t being addressed
• Restructured the application to support the actual workflow of educators by simplifying reports into two categories
