Business Need
Elevon’s RareVision product was meant to help small business owners evaluate their companies’ financial performance. However, in initial testing, Sliced Bread Design determined that none of the users tested were able to use the product. Subsequently, Elevon asked Sliced Bread Design to create a new interactive application that would provide consumers with simple, but powerful enterprise-level financial tools.
After the redesign 10 out of 10 users tested in the usability study could successfully complete all the tasks and found the application to be clear and easy to use.
Strategy & Solution
In order to help users understand the product without any training, we:
- Reorganized the interface to present information in a way that made sense to the small business user
- Capitalized on a familiar QuickBooks metaphor by allowing users to drill deeper into charts with a magnifying glass icon
- Provided a breadcrumb trail to orient users as they drilled down
- Provided a table beneath the chart to provide details for advanced analysis
- Cleaned up the visual design to emphasize the important data
- Selected a color palette that made it obvious how data interrelated
- Provided users with easy access to information that relates to their current task
- Created a wizard to help users understand and manage their cash flow
- Designed interactive, customizable graphs to allow users to analyze their finances visually
