Improving the Tools – Search Results, Bookmarks, & Tags pages
We found that the tools and functionality Wink provided on its site were both powerful and interesting, but not clearly explained to users or easy to use. To improve user experience with Wink’s Search Results, Bookmarks, and Tags pages, we:
- Developed a consistent set of terminology throughout the interface to explain concepts to users and help them create a mental model. Examples include "Add a Bookmark," "Subscribe to a public Tag," "Create a Collection," etc.
- Used active voice and clear labels, such as “Find tags” and “Block site,” to define functional areas and actions
- Avoided catchy terms for objects and functionality that did not clearly indicate their purpose
- Introduced important functionality that had been missing from the site such as a list of all tags, tag search, and an ability to sort tags in various ways
- Created a consistent standard for identifying information contributed by the user versus info contributed by others
